A Facebook Page or a Facebook Group?

Deciding between a Facebook Page and a Facebook Group really depends on your goals. Both have its advantages, but serve different purposes.

Facebook Group
A Facebook group is designed to create a community of people bonded by a common interest. Interests can be anything. Some examples are networking, children, single moms, stay at home moms, fitness, fashion, and religion. Note that this list is not exhaustive; there are many more interests used to create groups.

What sets groups apart is the community element of it. Unless the settings are changed by group admins, everyone can post in the group. Unlike Facebook pages, everyone’s posts show up on the timeline, so that it is easy to see and comment on. This encourages group members to post and share information as well as interact with each other. Again, this is where the community element comes into play. This takes pressure off the group admins, because members voluntarily share in the posting.

How to DM and Send a Disappearing Photo on Instagram

Recently I was asked how to DM on Instagram. DM means direct message which is the same as sending a private message. Instagram is perfecting this feature and has made it much easier to use.

There are a couple of ways to send a private message which I will explain below in steps.

Sending a DM:

  1. Open your Instagram app
  2. Go to the house icon on the bottom of your screen farthest to the left
  3. Now look to the top right and you will see an arrow that looks like a paper airplane (see #1 on image for example). If you have received messages, you will see a red number instead. Tap whichever icon is there.
  4. On this screen, you can tap + New Message, select the names of the recipients, type your message, and then hit send. You can send to multiple people just the same as you would with email.

5 Apps to Create Image Quotes and Memes

You have probably been wondering how those words end up on images. Well, I’m sharing my five top choices with you today. While there are many options out there, I like the way this selection displays the text. I also like their functionality.

WordSwag

wordswag appThis is my #1 favorite app. It produces quality images with many cool options on how the text is displayed.  If you’re looking for professionalism and a clean, polished look, WordSwag gives it to you every time. Note: the more text you include, the smaller the font so only type in short statements. It comes with different backgrounds, access to a stock photo catalog of more options, or you can upload your own picture. Last but not least, it does all the design work for you.  Continue reading 5 Apps to Create Image Quotes and Memes

Why Your Followers Feel Ignored

Images are the number one viewed media on social media platforms. As a child, you read pictures before reading the words. Adults mirror the same behavior online.  So, how do you tap into that behavior?

Add an image to your posts. It will draw the eye of the reader much faster. One of the most popular types of images is image quotes (sometimes called memes depending on the type); they have words on a blank canvas or a photo. You can design your own image quote using apps such as Word Swag, Typorama, Phonto, or Textgram (there are lots more) or you can re-post someone else’s image quote.  Continue reading Why Your Followers Feel Ignored

Facebook Live vs. Periscope

Facebook continues to roll out its live video streaming platform, Facebook Live, which competes directly with Periscope. That makes things interesting. So which one should you use? Or should you use both? Just for clarification…when you go live, people are seeing and hearing everything that is taking place in that moment; it’s real time. Who Are You Talking to On Social Media?

Who are you talking to on social media? You may not realize this but there is a particular audience designed for your personality or for the product or service you offer. While I don’t know who your particular audience is, I know who it’s not. It’s not “everyone.” Why? Because you can’t talk to everyone at the same time effectively. Imagine having a group of 6-10 year olds in the same room as a group of senior citizens. Would they care about the same things? Would they have the same needs? Would they even understand the same buzz words? No, they wouldn’t. Continue reading Who Are You Talking to On Social Media?
