Add a Link to Your Instagram Story!

You can now add a link to your Instagram Stories if you have a business account with 10,000 or more followers. Here’s how you do it:

🔸capture your video or still picture.
🔸once that’s complete, at the top, you’ll see the link 🔗 icon
🔸tap it and include the link of your choice but make it count. Don’t over use it.

**Instagram is rolling out the capability in batches so if you haven’t seen it yet, you will see it soon as long as you have a business account of 10,000 or more followers.

Bonus tip: when you’re typing words on to your story, you can tag someone like you would in a post.

Instagram LIVE Update!

Instagram now has a LIVE streaming feature. Since its owned by Facebook, you can continue to expect these cool features. When initially launched, Instagram LIVE videos disappeared as soon as the LIVE stream ended. Well, there’s good news!

Instagram is now giving you the option to post it to Instagram Stories (the top bar of circle pics) for 24 hours. You’ll see that option after you hit the end live button. When looking at your Instagram Stories, you’ll know it’s a live video posted when you see the play button/arrow.

There are over 200 million daily users of Instagram stories, so if you have not been using that feature, you’re missing out on a prime opportunity to connect with your followers.

Social Media Tip: Create a Facebook Event

Facebook events are a goldmine…but you have to use them the right way. Create an event, ask as many people as possible to invite their friends, then work that timeline. Every post sends a notification to every person invited even if they have not clicked ‘join’.

Treat the timeline on the Facebook event page as you would the timeline on your Facebook page and let that be one mode of communication leading up to the event.

Used effectively, you will easily reach beyond your current network of friends and connections to spread the word about your event farther.

A Facebook Page or a Facebook Group?

Deciding between a Facebook Page and a Facebook Group really depends on your goals. Both have its advantages, but serve different purposes.

Facebook Group
A Facebook group is designed to create a community of people bonded by a common interest. Interests can be anything. Some examples are networking, children, single moms, stay at home moms, fitness, fashion, and religion. Note that this list is not exhaustive; there are many more interests used to create groups.

What sets groups apart is the community element of it. Unless the settings are changed by group admins, everyone can post in the group. Unlike Facebook pages, everyone’s posts show up on the timeline, so that it is easy to see and comment on. This encourages group members to post and share information as well as interact with each other. Again, this is where the community element comes into play. This takes pressure off the group admins, because members voluntarily share in the posting.

How to DM and Send a Disappearing Photo on Instagram

Recently I was asked how to DM on Instagram. DM means direct message which is the same as sending a private message. Instagram is perfecting this feature and has made it much easier to use.

There are a couple of ways to send a private message which I will explain below in steps.

Sending a DM:

  1. Open your Instagram app
  2. Go to the house icon on the bottom of your screen farthest to the left
  3. Now look to the top right and you will see an arrow that looks like a paper airplane (see #1 on image for example). If you have received messages, you will see a red number instead. Tap whichever icon is there.
  4. On this screen, you can tap + New Message, select the names of the recipients, type your message, and then hit send. You can send to multiple people just the same as you would with email.
